Disaster Relief

Lifeline Express responded promptly to the tragic Sichuan earthquake which happened on 12th May 2008. Through the Lifeline Express Microsurgical Eye Training Center in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, Lifeline Express was able to obtain prompt and accurate information on the urgent needs of the earthquake victims. Within days, nineteen trucks in five groups delivered over 100 tons of earthquake relief items to the earthquake region including tents, folding beds, raincoats, radios, flashlights, mosquito repellents, and other supplies desperately needed by the schools and hospitals. These goods were distributed under the supervision of Lifeline Express staff through the Mianyang Hospital to the schools and hospitals affected by the earthquake. Over 3 million RMB worth of relief items were delivered within a few weeks of the earthquake.

Lifeline Express was also concerned about the psychological condition of the students in the earthquake areas. Lifeline Express arranged for Olympic Gold medalists Li Ning, Liu Xuan, Yang Ling, Li Chunyang and Jin Jing to visit the schools in the earthquake areas. The group visited Jiangyou and Mianyang in Sichuan on 9th and 10th of June 2008. They brought comfort and confidence to the students, teachers, medical staff, and the hard-working Chinese military personnel.
